Get Transport to Food

Transport for Older Adults and Those with Disabilities

Are you 60 or older, or living with a disability?

  • Anyone 60 + or who has a permanent disability is eligible for free taxis through the City of Somerville’s Council on Aging.
    • Rides must be approved 2 business days in advance.
    • Participants can access 1 food ride per week, in addition to 1 medical ride.

  • Door2Door provides shuttles to grocery stores. You are assigned a day based on your address. Contact them to register: 617-625-1911.
  • Somerville-Cambridge Elder Services Home Care recipients are eligible for transportation to food. To be eligible, you must be experiencing difficulty living independently. Contact SCES to learn more: 617-628-2601

Some forms of health insurance may offer transportation to food. Talk to your healthcare provider about options.

Meals on Wheels

What: Prepared meals offered by Somerville-Cambridge Elder Services (SCES)

Who: Older adults (60+) living in Somerville        or Cambridge

Contact: SCES Aging Information, 617-628-2601

Cost: Free for low-income older adults.                 *Those with higher income pay an affordable rate.

Project SOUP Home Delivery

What: Grocery delivery 1-2 times per month from Project SOUP

Who: Homebound households with limited access to other food resources

*Project SOUP may be able to still offer delivery. Reach out to learn more!

What: Prepared meals offered by local non-profit Community Servings

Who: Those with qualifying medical conditions, such as HIV/AIDS, diabetes, or cancer, among others. Contact 617-533-7777 for a full list or for help applying.
